Hiya people - remember me? Smile

One of the reasons why I've been absent a lot on here lately is I've been working on a number of comedy-based projects. By far the scariest, and most time-consuming, is a stand-up routine I've been working on. And last night I finally performed it to a frighteningly large crowd at a little gig which was part of the Birmingham Comedy Festival.

I was a bit shaky, and a few gags tanked (including the first one - which didn't do a lot for my confidence), but it went really well, and I've been offered a few spots here and there, so you can't ask for more.

If anyone wants to hear my set, let me know and I'll email you the recording. There's one use of very strong language. Oh, and that's not some sort of comedy accent I'm putting on, that's my actual voice.

bloomin eh; English and/or American cursing?

Congrats on that. I've thought about doing stand-up (we have quite a huge amount of comedy clubs here in California), but my esoteric nature tends to limit my audience.

Keep working on it. So many stand-ups had trouble early -- read Steve Martin's book "Born Standing Up: A Comic's Life" which is an excellent account of how hard he worked.

I'll take the recording of course. Always must help promote my fellow buddies.

Your set wouldn't happen to involve a monologue about an adventure in a Toronto hotel by chance, would it? There was just something in the telling of that one, even in typed format, that screamed "comedy gold!" Laughing

On a barely semi-kind-related note, a musician friend of mine has asked me to design a logo for an improv comedy troupe he's assembling for the corporate circuit here (where the real dollars are). My logo as a backdrop will be about as close as I'll ever get to being on stage, so my kudos to Cal for taking the plunge!

Anyway, I'm now off to track down bootleg video of the Birmingham Comedy Festival. I mean, there's gotta be some . . . Cool

Hehe, I did think about it when I was doing my course, but I couldn't get the story into a form that I was happy with. But it's definitely in my list of potential material. Trouble is, I think I'd have trouble getting the audience to believe it was true!
